We keep Governors informed about important consultations and issues by writing to them via their Clerk to the Governors. Recent letters and consultation responses may be viewed here. You will not hear from us if Governor Services do not hold up to date contact information for your clerk if you do not receive an electronic copy of our letters please let us know.
We represent Oxfordshire Governors locally and nationally in a number of ways.
We have a non-voting member on the Oxfordshire County Council Education Scrutiny Committee.
We have representatives who attend the School Organisation Stakeholder Group. Both of these committees have minutes that are in the public domain.
We hold termly Consultation Meetings with OCC’s Elected Representatives with responsibility for Schools, the Chair of Education Scrutiny, The Director for Children’s Services and other Senior officers who run the Education Services in Oxfordshire. This allows us to take up key points and experiences with the people with the real political power to get issues raised and actioned. Notes from our recent meetings may be viewed on this website.
Clearly for us to make the most of this opportunity we need to hear about current concerns affecting our schools so please contact us.*
We have a representative on the Workforce Steering Group which does an excellent job of working on model HR policies for schools which have been approved by the relevant trade unions.
We have a representative on the Oxfordshire Strategic Schools Partnership which brings together representatives of educational organisations to provide strategic oversight for school improvement.
Schools Forum, whilst Governor and Headteacher representatives are elected to Schools Forum, we have had OGA Executive representatives who also sit on Schools Forum since it was first convened in 2003 and currently the Chair of OGA also Chairs Schools Forum, so we are closely involved in school funding issues.
Nationally OGA has Local Association membership of the National Governance Association. Usually at least one member of the Executive Committee attends National and Regional conferences, participating actively in any discussion to inform NGA of local concerns so that they can better represent Governors at local and national level. The representative(s) report back to the OGA Executive as appropriate. In the recent past we have also had Oxfordshire representation on the NGA board.
*BUT WHAT WE DO NOT DO IS TAKE UP A CONCERN FROM AN INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL UNLESS IT IS AN EXAMPLE OF A WIDER PROBLEM. IF IN DOUBT PLEASE DO CONTACT US ANYWAY!
