Concise advice
Governance can sometimes feel like you’re trying to keep a huge range of plates all spinning at the same time. Good quality training is available, but session schedules may not fit your needs or availability.
So we’ve written some concise prompt sheets to give you a down-and-dirty understanding of various topics:
New Governor Crib Sheet This is designed to help you get the most out of your first few governor meetings until you’ve found your feet.
Induction training for new governors – slide deck. This accompanies the crib sheet. It is designed to be run in-house and to be customisable for your school. It’s designed to complement and not replace the required induction training given by external providers.
Embedding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in your school(s). This will help you make sure that you are aligned with the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty. More importantly, it will make sure that all pupils / students enjoy an equal, supportive time at your school.
Monitoring British Values. This is designed to help you set up a governance oversight programme in your school to ensure you align with the statutory guidance.
Tackling Institutional Racism. This is designed to help you recognise institutional racism within your school, and how governors can monitor the effectiveness of policies on the ground.
